Archaea Energy is Hiring a Plant Operator Near Lawrenceville, VA

Job Summary

Archaea Energy, a leader in the landfill gas to energy industry has an immediate opening for Lead Plant Operator. This is the entry level classification in the Power Plant Operator Advancement Program. An individual participates in INGENCO’S training program and learns to perform general operational duties under close supervision. Individuals normally advance to the Plant Operator II classification after gaining experience and meeting the requirements of the higher level classification.

SCHEDULE: Monday - Friday 6a-2p with weekend morning checks, requires on-call 24/7. The schedule is subject to change per business needs and management discretion.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Operates and maintains assets safely and in compliance with Company standards and regulatory requirements and guidelines.
  • Develops budgets, capital improvements and maintenance plans.
  • Implements operating, maintenance and capital programs consistent with functional plans.
  • Implements and communicates operating and maintenance procedures and policies.
  • Administers planned maintenance program for assets.
  • Schedules plant maintenance.
  • Assists in determining the level of engineering support required to maintain area assets.
  • Ensures that performance metrics are appropriately utilized.
  • Interfaces with support, finance, sales/marketing, human resources and other corporate service groups to identify support needs.
  • Develops higher level of personal operational knowledge and ensures training of subordinates.
  • Understands and acts upon commercial customers’ needs and helps implement new business initiatives.
  • Consults with engineering personnel on construction projects and optimization matters.
  • Collaborates with others to identify opportunities for improvement and to resolve operating issues.
  • Implements regulatory procedures and policies under PSM & IMP regulations.
  • Ensures immediate response by designated personnel to emergency situations.
  • Implements required safety and regulatory training.
  • Utilizes continuous improvement processes and concepts to enhance safety, environmental sensitivity and leadership throughout operating area.
  • Serves as a liaison with Company insurance personnel to manage/control workers’ compensation claims.
  • Provides training to direct reports.
  • Implements corporate programs.
  • Resolves personal issues with consultation from Human Resources Department.
  • Handles staffing of new and existing facilities.
  • Conducts performance appraisals and coaching.
  • Identifies business development opportunities and communicates them to management.
  • This is not a complete list of duties. Lead Operators may be required to perform additional duties deemed necessary by management.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Graduation from high (or GED) and one-year related work experience OR any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Unyielding dedication to safety and able to positively represent the company’s safety culture.
  • 2-3 years of demonstrated competency with all aspects of plant operations and maintenance.
  • 1 years of supervisory experience.
  • Fifteen years of experience in energy plant operations, such as a gas plant or fractionator operator, or facility manager, including responsibility for budgeting, safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.
  • Work hours vary by plant. The work schedule is subject to change per business needs and management discretion.
  • This position will be on call 24/7, on a rotating basis, in case of any emergencies and failures.
  • Overtime maybe required to meet various business needs.
  • Must possess ability to read and interpret operations and safety manuals, analyze and apply advanced troubleshooting and repair techniques on plant equipment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.
  • Must possess various computer skills and have good working knowledge of Word, Excel and email systems.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license, must pass background check, physical, hearing and drug test.
